Understanding Kidney Disease in Kenya: Kidney Health for All

Understanding Kidney Disease in Kenya is a crucial resource addressing a widespread yet often overlooked health crisis. The World Health Organization estimates that 10% of the global population lives with kidney disease, with treatment access heavily skewed toward developed countries, where only 20% of those affected receive adequate care. As non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension rise worldwide, developing nations are left struggling to catch up.

This gap in knowledge and resources is particularly pronounced in Sub-Saharan Africa, where many patients lack vital information about kidney disease. As a Kidney Nurse Specialist, I have witnessed the profound impact of this lack of awareness. Many patients have missed critical dialysis sessions and suffered severe complications due to inadequate understanding of their condition.

This book seeks to bridge that gap. While it is rooted in the experiences of the Kenyan community, its insights are relevant to anyone affected by kidney disease, no matter where they live. My goal is to empower readers globally with the knowledge they need to take charge of their health and make informed decisions about their care.
